Clinical Handover System
Background
The introduction of the European Working Time Directive has sought to protect health-care workers from the potentially damaging effects of working excessive hours and ensure that there are adequate rest periods between shifts. For doctors this has led to a move away from the traditional on-call pattern of work.
Problem
This change in working practices means several individuals may look after the same patients in any given day so the number of handovers between teams is increasing. In addition the majority of UK Trusts use paper based handovers.
Solution
The Clinical Handover System is highly flexible, can be used by all staff and can adjust to the needs of the specialty, being able to address:
- acute/elective patients
- different periods of being on-call
- different hours of working
- different times of handover
Market Potential
This novel software solution has the potential to transform the way handovers are conducted in the healthcare setting hence the global market for this solution is significant.
This software is currently available to license from NHSIL.
