Heart on Sleeve (mental health)

Background

Violence and anti-social behaviour in children are difficult to predict. Carers, teachers and the individuals involved find it hard to anticipate, control and manage these outbreaks, especially as the triggers and effective treatment protocols can vary considerably between individuals.

Problem

Inexplicable out of control states of mind are damaging for the individual, their family and immediate contacts and for children they can result in social exclusion and expulsion from school.

Solution

The device aims to measure biological markers, such as Heart Rate Variability, to help patients, their families, carers and teachers recognise when they are becoming emotionally aroused. It also provides suggestions and advice on how to control negative emotion when it starts to build and provides immediate feedback for the user.

Market Potential

There are already expert centres in the UK and Europe interested in the system. A significant proportion of the 30,000 schools in England could also be interested in such a device.
