London's Top NHS Innovators Announced

London's top NHS Innovators were announced on Thursday 30th October at the NHS Innovator London Awards 2008. The winners were selected, from a short list of 5 per category, by an independent judging panel hand picked for their special expertise. Of the entries this year, David Chilvers, Chief Executive of NHS Innovations London said "We have been stunned by the quality and growth this year to 121 entries with 35 Trusts participating. The judges had a very difficult task ni selected the winners for each Category. These projects are a shining example of the first class innovation taking place in London NHS Trusts".

The NHS Innovator Awards are designed to reward individuals who constantly strive to provide a better service for patients whether through new advances in technology or new products to improve the level of patient care. The evening, held at Cafe de Paris in London, was hosted by Paul Dickenson, the BBC's Olympic commentator and the expert judging panel included Paul Marcun, Managing Director, Ethicon-Endo surgery; Dr Keith Powell, CEO, Polytherics Ltd; Kevin J Dean, Managing Director, Publich Healthcare Internet Business, Cisco Systems Inc; Peter FitzGerald, Managing Director, Randox Laboratories Limited; Angela Greatley, Chief Executive, Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health; and Richard Marley, Publishing Director, Academic and Professional Books Divison, Cambridge University Press. Randox Laboratories also kindly sponsored the event.

 

The Innovator of the Year Award was presented by Paul Corrigan, Director of Strategy & Commissioning for NHS London who commented "As a world City, London is a well spring for innovations in a whole host of different aspects of economic and social relationships. Health and health services are an important prt of that innovation and the promise of the NHS and its belief in health care for all means that we need to ensure that the fruits of innovation are not just shared with few but with everyone".
