Accurate Measurement of Tissue Oxygen in Severe Head Injury
There are around 100,000 severe head injuries in the UK each year and measuring the oxygen saturation of damaged tissue is critical to caring for many such patients. A new internal probe oximeter which uses a fibre optic catheter to transmit light to and from the tissue, will give a more accurate measurement of tissue oxygen saturation compared with competitor products.
The probe oximeter would be relevant to around a third of UK severe head injury patients.
