NHS Innovations London (NHSIL) identifies, protects and commercialises the ideas and research of over 100 London Hospitals. Many have world class research facilities and laboratories. Innovations from London hospitals span the healthcare industry and include medical devices & equipment, assistive technologies, surgical instruments, therapeutics, diagnostics and healthcare informatics.
NHSIL has a high throughput Innovations Management & Virtual Product Development system (Xpedite™) which provides a pipeline of new products with reduced risk ready for industry. Xpedite™ fast tracks new products to market by moving them through a rapid 4 stage evaluation and product development process. This process includes virtual product development which involves using best of breed external contractors for design, prototyping, testing, pre-clinical and clinical trials to rapidly reach an end-point ready for adoption by industry through licensing. Clinical validation from key London clinicians is also obtained and by the end of the process the new product has a strong business case with an acceptable level of risk and robust supporting health economic data.
