Dr David Owen OBE David worked in R&D in the pharmaceutical industry for more than 20 years and is the sole named inventor on a key patent for a successfully marketed drug. In 1990, he joined the Medical Research Council to lead the MRC interface with industry. On David's watch as CEO of Medical Research Council Technology, more than 15 companies were established (including Cambridge Antibody Technology bought by AstraZeneca for > £800 million and Domantis bought by GSK for > £235 million) in addition to executing licensing agreements that have now generated more than £400 million for the MRC. During this time the MRC led in the development of the Proof of Concept/Development Gap funding model and created its own venture capital fund manager, MVM Ltd. In addition to NHSIL, David holds advisory and non-executive roles at Ploughshare Innovations Ltd, EMBLEM GmbH, the Valorisation Advisory Board, The Netherlands Genetics Initiative, Spectrum Ltd., the EMBL Technology Fund, Germany and Cardiff Partnership Fund, Abcellute Ltd., Diagnostics for the Real World Ltd., Elara Pharma GmbH., Oxford Gene Technology IP Ltd. and Prokyma Technologies Ltd.
Andrew John Wood MA DM MRCP MRCPsych MFPM Andrew is Executive Director. Global External R&D Europe at Eli Lilly and Co. immediately prior to this he was Managing Director, Lilly Development Centre, Belgium where he was responsible for the European regional component of Lilly's Global External R&D function. Andrew qualified in medicine at Oxford University. He joined Lilly in 1991, following 10 years in academic medicine. He has been involved in many aspects of drug development, with particular emphasis on Neuroscience compounds, and has led both clinical and preclinical research activities in UK, Belgium and Japan.
